Safety and Compliance Instructions – PXL Clock (English Translation)

Thank you for choosing the PXL Clock. Please read these safety instructions and regulatory information carefully before putting the device into operation. This ensures safe operation and provides important information about product compliance.
Intended Use
The PXL Clock is a decorative LED frame (24 × 24 LED matrix) for displaying time and light effects in dry indoor spaces. The product is designed as an entertainment and display device for end users and may only be operated with the intended mains voltage of 230 V~ (50 Hz). The maximum power consumption is 65 W. Use exclusively the supplied power cable (Type C7 connector). The permissible ambient temperature during operation is 0 °C to 35 °C. This device is protective-insulated (Protection Class II) and does not require a protective conductor.
Prohibited Use
This product is intended exclusively for indoor use. Any other use is considered improper. In particular, please note:
- Do not use outdoors: The PXL Clock is not weatherproof. Moisture or rain can lead to risk of short circuit, electric shock or damage. Use the device only in dry indoor spaces.
- No use in wet or humid rooms: Do not use the device in bathrooms, near pools, aquariums or in other environments with high humidity. Protect the device from splash water and dripping water.
- Not for children as a toy: This product is not a toy. Keep it away from children. Children may not use the PXL Clock without adult supervision. Small parts and glass can pose a danger if handled improperly.
- Not to be used for safety-critical applications (e.g., emergency systems, fire alarm systems, life-saving devices or in critical infrastructure).
- Not in explosion-hazardous environments: Do not operate the device in areas with explosive gases or dust (e.g., gas stations, paint shops). Sparks or high temperatures in the device could trigger an explosion.
- Not in extreme EMF environments: Use in environments with strong electromagnetic fields (e.g., in immediate vicinity of industrial furnaces, MRI scanners or high-power transmitters) should be avoided. Such fields can interfere with electronics and lead to malfunctions.
- No commercial/industrial use: This product is intended for private use only. Use in professional environments (e.g., as measuring device, in production, etc.) is not intended and can shorten lifespan or exclude warranty claims.
- Not for food sector: The PXL Clock is not suitable for illuminating or in direct contact with food. Do not use it in cold storage rooms or for illuminating food.
Setup and Operation
- Stable location: Place the PXL Clock on a flat, stable surface. Ensure that the device does not wobble or can fall. Wall or ceiling mounting is not permitted as the device is designed for freestanding operation and wall mounting could hinder heat dissipation.
- Maintain distance: Do not place the device directly against walls or in narrow shelf compartments. Maintain at least a few centimeters distance to the back and sides so air can circulate. Do not cover ventilation openings. Sufficient ventilation extends lifespan and prevents overheating.
- No covering: Never place cloths, paper or other objects on the PXL Clock and do not cover it. Covered ventilation slots or covering the glass front can lead to heat buildup.
- Keep away from heat sources: Avoid placement in direct sunlight or near radiators, stoves or other heat sources. Excessive external heat can damage the device and deform the housing.
- Ambient temperature: Only operate the device within the specified temperature range (0–35 °C). At higher ambient temperatures, the device may shut down or be damaged. At very low temperatures, electronics may be impaired.
- Height installation: When placing at greater heights (e.g., on shelves above 1.50m), additionally secure the device against falling. Use appropriate safety measures.
Transport and Storage
- Keep original packaging: Keep the original packaging for safe transport. The specially adapted foam inserts and covers protect the sensitive glass front.
- Transport instructions: Transport the device only in upright position. Do not lay it flat to avoid pressure on the glass front. Secure the device against sliding during transport in vehicles.
- Storage temperature: For longer storage, ambient temperature should be between -10°C and +50°C. Avoid extreme temperature fluctuations and direct sunlight.
- Before recommissioning: After storage at extreme temperatures, let the device acclimatize to room temperature before operation (at least 2 hours).
Electrical Safety
- Mains connection: Check before operation that the mains voltage is 230 V~. Use exclusively the supplied mains connection cable and plug it completely into the device socket (C7) as well as into a properly installed outlet.
- Outlet accessibility: The outlet should be located near the device and easily accessible to quickly pull the plug if necessary. Do not overload outlets or extension cables – fire hazard from overheated lines!
- Cable handling: Route the power cable so that no one can step on it or trip over it. Be careful not to pinch, sharply bend or route the cable over sharp edges to avoid damage. A damaged cable must be replaced immediately – do not continue using the device in this case.
- Pull plug: Always pull on the plug, not the cable, when removing the power cable from the outlet. Never touch the mains plug or the plugged-in cable with moist or wet hands – risk of electric shock!
- Keep liquids away: Do not expose the device to liquid. Do not place containers filled with liquid (vases, glasses, etc.) on or next to the PXL Clock. Should liquid nevertheless get inside, immediately disconnect the mains plug and do not continue using the device before it has been checked by qualified personnel.
- Thunderstorms: During thunderstorms or prolonged non-use of the device, disconnect the mains plug for safety reasons to avoid damage from overvoltage (e.g., lightning strike in power grid).
- Surge protection: Using surge protection is recommended to protect the device from voltage spikes in the power grid.
- Pets: Keep pets away from the power cable. Rodents could damage the cable and endanger themselves and others.
Caution with Damage and Repair
- No own repairs: Never open the housing of the PXL Clock. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. By opening the device without authorization, any warranty claim expires, and you expose yourself to dangerous mains voltage that can lead to electric shocks or injuries.
- Qualified professionals: Repairs or internal maintenance work may only be performed by qualified professionals or manufacturer service. In case of damage or malfunction, contact our customer service (see manufacturer and contact below). Never attempt to disassemble or modify the device yourself.
- Switch off device in case of malfunction: If you notice unusual noises, smells, smoke development or flickering disturbances, immediately pull the mains plug. Do not continue using the device until it has been checked and repaired by a technician. Continued operation in such cases can lead to fire or electrical hazards.
Special Device Notes
- Glass front: The front side of the PXL Clock consists of high-quality float glass. Handle it carefully – avoid vibrations, impacts or dropping the device. Caution, fragile: In case of damage or crack formation in the glass plate, disconnect the device from power and do not continue using it. Do not touch broken glass pieces with bare hands (risk of cuts). Contact customer service for repair or replacement in this case.
- Bright light effects: The LED matrix can display very bright light patterns. Do not look directly into the LEDs from close range for extended periods to avoid eye strain. Persons with photosensitive epilepsy should exercise caution with rapidly flashing light effects and turn off the device if discomfort occurs.
- Heat development: Heat emission from the device during operation is normal. The glass front may warm up but should not become dangerously hot. Attention: Nevertheless avoid skin contact with the glass front during longer operating periods. Let the device cool down after switching off before transporting it if necessary.
- LED lifespan: The installed LEDs have an expected lifespan of approximately 50,000 operating hours. Replacement of individual LEDs is not possible.
Emergency Measures
In case of glass breakage:
- Interrupt power supply (pull mains plug)
- Wear protective gloves and sturdy footwear
- Pick up glass shards with dustpan and broom, never with vacuum cleaner
- Pick up smallest splinters with moist disposable cloth
- Place all glass residue in puncture-proof container
- Send device to manufacturer for repair
In case of electric shock:
- Immediately interrupt power supply (turn off circuit breaker)
- Call emergency number 112
- Do not continue using device
Data Protection and Network Security
- Use the device only in home networks, not in public networks and not in networks you cannot control or in corporate networks.
- WLAN security: Use exclusively encrypted networks (WPA2 or higher) for WLAN connection. Avoid open or unsecured networks.
- Firmware updates: The device regularly installs available firmware updates to close security gaps.
- Access credentials: The device offers no user access.
- Network isolation: If concerned about network security, you can operate the device in an isolated guest network.
- Data protection: The device only collects data necessary for operation. Details can be found in the privacy policy on our website.
Cleaning and Maintenance
- Pull mains plug before cleaning: Before any cleaning or maintenance procedure, ensure that the PXL Clock is disconnected from the power grid (pull mains plug).
- Clean housing and glass: Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Carefully wipe over the glass and housing to remove dust or fingerprints. Do not use harsh, abrasive cleaning agents or solvents (alcohol, gasoline, etc.) as these can damage the glass surface or plastic housing. Normally, a dry or slightly moistened cloth is sufficient.
- Do not let liquids penetrate: Ensure that no liquid gets inside the device. Never immerse the PXL Clock in water or other liquids and do not expose it to high humidity. Should liquid accidentally get into the device, let it dry completely and have it checked by a specialist before putting it back into operation.
- Maintenance-free: The PXL Clock is maintenance-free. No regular maintenance by the user is required. Do not open the device. All components inside are installed so that they do not need to be adjusted or replaced by the user.
Extended EMC Notes
- Interference: The device may in rare cases cause disturbances to sensitive devices:
- Maintain at least several meters distance to pacemakers
- At least 1m distance to hearing aids
- In case of radio/TV reception interference: Reposition device or increase distance
- The device may only be operated in private residential areas. For operation in commercial or industrial environments, explicit manufacturer consent is required.
- Operation of the device in hospitals, care facilities or similar institutions is prohibited.
Disposal and Environmental Regulations
- Electrical waste: This device is registered in the WEEE register according to ElektroG (WEEE Reg. No. DE41629348). The symbol of the crossed-out waste bin on the product indicates that electrical and electronic devices may not be disposed of with household waste. At the end of the PXL Clock's lifespan, please dispose of the device in an environmentally friendly manner. Take it to a public collection point (recycling center) or to an appropriate take-back point (e.g., recycling center or electronics retailer). This way you contribute to the recycling of raw materials and environmental protection. Note: Legal regulations prohibit the disposal of electrical devices in household waste – improper disposal can result in punishable fines.
- Batteries: Note: The PXL Clock contains no batteries.
- Packaging: The product packaging consists of recyclable materials. Feed the packaging to material recycling by placing paper, cardboard and plastic films in the appropriate recycling bins. Our company is registered in the German packaging register LUCID under Reg. No. DE4940239725994 and participates in a dual system (Zentek) to ensure proper packaging recycling.
Declaration of Conformity (CE)
This product bears CE marking and meets the requirements of all relevant EU directives. In particular, the PXL Clock meets:
- the Low Voltage Directive (2014/35/EU),
- the EMC Directive (2014/30/EU), and
- the Radio Equipment Directive (2014/53/EU) – as the device has WLAN radio functionality.
The PXL Clock has been tested according to applicable European safety standards, including EN 62368-1:2014 (Safety of audio/video, information and communication technology equipment). It also complies with the requirements of Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS) on the restriction of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.
Radio Notice: This device uses WLAN radio technology (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n) in the 2.4 GHz band for network connection. The radio module complies with EU requirements for radio equipment according to Directive 2014/53/EU (RED). Operating frequency: 2,400–2,4835 GHz. Maximum transmission power: < 100 mW EIRP. Ensure that a minimum distance of 20 cm is maintained between the device and your body to ensure compliance with general RF exposure limits.
Simplified EU Declaration of Conformity: Hereby, Cumin & Potato GmbH declares that the radio equipment type PXL Clock complies with the essential requirements and other relevant provisions of Directive 2014/53/EU (RED). The device uses open source software. A complete list of used licenses and open source components can be found at: https://pxlclock.com/licenses. Firmware modifications void the warranty and may render the device unusable.

- Damage due to improper use or misuse
- Damage due to force majeure (e.g., lightning strike, flooding)
- Normal wear and age-related changes
- Damage from unauthorized repair attempts or modifications
- Use of non-original spare parts or accessories
- Operation outside intended environmental conditions
- Damage from overvoltage if no suitable surge protection was used
- Glass breakage due to external impact
- Transport damage if shipping did not occur in original packaging
